R13 upholstery backing

For upholstery and interior applications, the most suitable construction is based on R13 upholstery backing.

This backing is a coated cotton-polyester fabric designed to provide stability, flexibility and a soft hand suitable for covered or upholstered elements. Once laminated with cork, the material has an approximate thickness starting from 0.75 mm.

The R13 construction can be evaluated for wallcovering, seating, panels, headboards, poufs and other interior components where the material needs to combine visual impact, flexibility and technical consistency.

Textures, finishes, and surface treatment

Cork fabrics for upholstery are available with different natural, agglomerated, coloured and printed cork textures. The choice depends on the visual effect, project positioning and final use.

For interior applications, surface treatments can be evaluated according to the expected use of the material. The standard treatment is a water-based polyurethane solution with natural and synthetic waxes.

Additional finishes or customized surfaces can be discussed depending on the project, required performance and production feasibility.

The main cork fabric production process does not require water, except for specific surface treatments. This is an important aspect of our production approach and helps reduce resource use in the core lamination process.

For interior and upholstery applications, we recommend evaluating the material according to backing, thickness, surface treatment, flexibility, cleaning requirements and expected use.
